Has someone confided in you about an incident?

Take what is being shared in confidence seriously.

Behaviour involving sexual violence or harassment is unacceptable under any circumstance. The victim can experience serious repercussions, even if they do not appear affected. Do not downplay what happened, and do not ridicule or criticize the person confiding in you.

Prohibit.

Inform the victim that he or she must not accept the violent incident. Behaviour involving sexual violence or harassment is unacceptable under any circumstance.

Refer and assist.

Encourage the victim to consult the Center for Harassment Intervention (BIMH) (website in French only). The Centre will listen to him or her and offer advice, counselling, support and assistance to go through this very painful situation. Offer to accompany the victim to the BIMH or to make the phone call with him or her.

If you are a student

Consult the Center for Harassment Intervention (BIMH) (website in French only) or Student Services for support and assistance.

If you are an employee

Consult the Center for Harassment Intervention (BIMH) (website in French only) or the Human Resources Office before taking action.

If you are in a position of authority

You are responsible for putting a stop to the harassment. Depending on the circumstances, HEC Montréal must provide support. As necessary, consult the Center for Harassment Intervention (BIMH) or Human Resources Office before taking action.
